U.S. DOOR'S OLYMPIAN SERIES CHOSEN FOR CITY OF AUSTIN ENERGY CENTER EXPANSION

October 22, 2008-When the City of Austin, Texas needed doors for the expansion of the Sand Hill Energy Center, U.S. Door & Building Components’ Olympian Series Model 902 doors were selected.

The newly expanded center required several doors ranging in size from 8’ wide by 8’ high to 16’ wide by 20’ high.  In addition to providing security, improved energy efficiency and noise reduction, the doors also allow easy access for heavy equipment moving and storage. 

Model 902 standard features include a flat 3” steel slats with insulation, locking slide bolts, malleable iron windlocks, gloss white hex-shaped hood and duro-bronze painted guides and brackets.  The guides are made from structural steel 3-piece angles; the bottom bar is constructed using 2-angle structural steel with a two part posi-lock door stop for extra safety.  Optional features included motor operators on all of the doors. 

The doors were selected by the General Contractor, Brinkner General Contracting based in Austin, Texas.  “The product quality and customer service was excellent” said Steven Brink, Owner of Brinkner General Contracting.  “Even with the doors shipping in the midst of Hurricane Ike, U.S. Door’s response and communication with the transportation company insured the doors arrived safely and timely.”

NEW GYM WILL BE USED TO HELP TRAIN TROUBLED TEENS

When Mahoney Design and Build asked us to participate by donating a door to the project, we were honored and accepted immediately” said John McLane, President of U.S. Door & Building Components.
U.S. Door donated a 16’ wide by 8’ high Model 626 door and a Gliderol motor operator to the project.  The Model 626 was chosen because it features heavy duty 3” deep 14 gauge steel guides, 80,000 cycle springs and 1 5/16” tubular axle suspended in steel bearings within a fully enclosed barrel allowing for quiet, smooth operation for many years.  The door was ordered with optional insulation and in a galvalume finish to match the exterior décor of the gym.
“When we decided to go with a roll-up door for the boxing gym on the Extreme Makeover project, the first place I called was U.S. Door & Building Components. Not only did they say yes, they provided so much more; an insulated door, electric door operator, and a crew of knowledgeable installers to install the door and opener. U.S. Door made this part of the project extremely easy for the Mahoney Design & Build Team“ said Tim Mahoney, President of Mahoney Design and Build Inc.

The door was installed by Joe Burkhalter and Tony Domicolo, both employees of U.S. Door.   The new gym where the door is featured is equipped with all new, state-of-the-art exercise equipment and a full size boxing ring.

U.S. DOOR INTRODUCES HEAVY DUTY ROLLING SLAT-TYPE DOORS

Introducing the new Models 800 and 900 Series doors by U.S. Door & Building Components, the only roll-up doors specifically designed for applications requiring doors that will stand up to heavy motorized traffic but offer unique features making them less expensive than similar heavy duty service doors.

“These models complete our line of rolling slat-type doors “ said Chip Cordes, Vice President of U.S. Door & Building Components. ”We now have rolling slat doors to fit nearly any requirement in the market including wind load applications”.

Both models feature 3” curved or flat slats made from a minimum of 22-gauge hot-dipped galvanized steel. Individual slats can be replaced easily if damaged by equipment traffic insuring security, safety and long lasting aesthetic appeal. Additional features include a PVC bulb-type astragal to seal against irregular floors, reduced drive chain hoist, and cast steel endlocks. Options include cast steel windlocks and electric operation. Doors can be installed in a steel, masonry or wood jamb and are available in galvanized, satin white, lightstone tan or duro-bronze finishes.

Models 800 and 801 uniquely combine heavy duty rolling slat door features including a patent pending 6 5/8” steel pipe barrel and a structural steel wall angle with roll formed high tensile 12 gauge hot-dipped galvanized steel guides. Options available are a 20-gauge hood and structural painted guides.

The 900 and 901 Models were designed to meet the highest standard rolling slat door specifications. The guides are made from structural steel 3-piece angles; the bottom bar is constructed using 2-angle structural steel with a two part posi-lock door stop for extra safety. Also standard is a 20-gauge steel hood. Options include 18 or 20-gauge steel, stainless steel, aluminum and insulated slats.

MODEL 536 INSTALLATION VIDEO IS NOW AVAILABLE FROM US DOOR & BUILDING COMPONENTS

An installation DVD for the Model 536 Door is now available from U.S. Door & Building Components. The video is a supplement to the written instructions and shows each necessary step to install the doors including checking the jambs for plumb, measuring the opening to insure there is sufficient clearance, guide and bracket mounting, lifting the door in place and adjustment of tension after installation is completed.

The Model 536 commercial roll-up sheet door is an economical alternative to slat type doors. They are available in sizes up to 12’ wide by 12’ high and in 22 different colors.
